canyon meat processing

Canyon Meat Processing is a company based in the rural heart of Shandon, California. Specializing in breaking down game animals such as pigs, goats, sheep, deer, and buffalo, the company provides professional meat processing services tailored to hunters and ranchers.

project goal

The goal of this project was to (1) design a logo reflecting the company’s rural roots and ranch-inspired aesthetic; (2) design and print professional business cards; and (3) design stickers using materials that can withstand moisture, oils, and extreme storage temperatures.

process

Research

  • Analyzed competitor logos to identify design trends and opportunities for differentiation.

  • Compiled iconic visuals such as barns, tools, and game animal silhouettes.

  • Browsed effective business card layouts to create a professional, visually cohesive design.

  • Researched durable sticker materials capable of withstanding extreme conditions.

  • Compared online and local print vendors to identify the best pricing options for the client while ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Iterations

Concept Development

  • With limited direction from client, initial sketches explored varied color palettes, iconography, and typography.

  • Maintained constant communication with the client throughout the design process to make sure their preferences were incorporated.

  • Experimented with simple vs. complex designs, weighing the balance between visual impact and brand clarity.

  • Maintained consistent typography, color palette, and visual motifs across all deliverables.

  • Created mockups of business cards and stickers to assess their readability and impact when printed.

final logo design

Symbol

The outer trunk represents the company’s strong foundation. The circular outline inside resembles tree rings & allows the logo to be cropped into a simple circle.

The client specifically requested these animals. Their main clientele are ranchers who raise livestock such as pigs and cows.

Crossed boning knives symbolize the expertise, craftsmanship, and precision in meat processing. As traditional tools, they reinforce the company’s skill and reliability.

Typography
”Canyon Meat Processing” uses a simple serif font. Increased tracking ensures it is legible and maintains a more open, balanced composition.

Color Palette
The earthy brown color is natural, warm, and inviting, complimenting the company’s rural roots. Additionally, the final files included black-and-white versions.

Versatility was a key priority; the final files were packaged with consideration for various applications, including print, digital, and scalability. The various components of the logo are saved as separate files for easy access and application. Black and white, transparent, and opaque versions of the logo were all included.

The client requested a clean, straightforward business card design that would make their brand instantly recognizable.

The front of the business card features an inverted version of the logo in white. The primary color of the brand is the background, with the logo centered for strong visual impact.

The back is simple and easy to follow: the client's name is the most prominent element, followed by their position. Contact details are easily legible in appropriately sized text against a white background.

stickers & packaging designs

BOPP Stickers

BOPP stands for Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene, a type of plastic film made from polypropylene that has been stretched in both the machine and cross direction. This process gives the material improved strength, making it resistant to tearing, moisture, and chemicals. BOPP is commonly used in packaging, labeling, and stickers because of its durability and ability to withstand moisture, oils, and extreme temperatures, making it ideal for freezer/fridge-safe labels.

  • Gloss laminated white polypropylene self-adhesive label

  • Subtle pearly white finish

  • Tear-proof, waterproof, and resistant to oil

  • All-temperature permanent adhesive sticks to almost any surface

  • Apply onto clean, dry surface at room temperature

  • Minimum application temperature: 30ºF

  • Temperate range that label can withstand: -65º to 200ºF

  • Recommended for products that are exposed to water, oil, moisture, or refrigeration
